Stucco/Siding Homes
Stucco houses are very common as they are very resistant to heat, durable, and inexpensive to make. There are pros and cons to having a stucco home, and with the proper maintenance, it can be a very good option for a home.
However, when it comes to attaching our awnings on stucco homes, it is not so easy. Though made up of the similar properties as concrete, unlike concrete – which is extremely hard and dense -, stucco is a very breathable material and cannot hold much weight at all.
Vinyl siding is also a go to choice for many new homes, as they are a very affordable option. However, it is very similar to stucco, in that it is essential hollow and does not support any weight at all.
Unlike brick homes (as seein the photo below), where we can drill anchor bolts straight into the brick, spacing them out evenly every 4ft, as stucco homes have nothing behind them, we would need to find the studs and anchor our awnings into where the studs are. This results in an uneven placement of our brackets, and not very pleasing to the eye.
Our Solution
Our solution to installing on stucco, while keeping the brackets evenly spaced and aesthetically pleasing was to install a piece of 2×12 wood straight on the studs of the home and installing our awning on the wood. And depending on the customer’s requests, we can either leave it as is, or have it painted to the colour of their choice.
This insures evenly spaced out brackets, resulting in a nice awning, that is sturdy on the stucco homes and siding homes.
